July 23, 2020

Dear Y.A.L.E. School Community,

We would like to offer this update on our reopening plans for September.  On June 26th, the New Jersey Department of Education provided guidance to schools in its document,“The Road Back”,  which we used when developing the Y.A.L.E. plan.

Throughout July, we conducted parent surveys that our Return to School Committee referenced when creating the plan framework. In addition, we consulted the CDC and American Association of Pediatrics guidelines along with the state’s requirements and recommendations to help formulate a detailed plan for the fall.

As our planning team considered all options, we remained focused on the health and safety of our students and staff as the highest priority, and made decisions accordingly.  The Governor asked that school reopening plans include modified, in-person instruction. The Y.A.L.E. plan provides both for in-person instruction, and remote learning to accommodate families that are not yet comfortable sending their children back to school.  School hours have also been modified with all students following a shortened daily schedule.

Attached to this letter is an overview of the Y.A.L.E. School plan for the 2020-2021 school year.  We ask that you review it carefully, as it addresses many of the concerns important to everyone as students, staff and faculty return to school.  Please use the Parent/Guardian Response Link at the end of the attached Y.A.L.E. School Reopening Plan-Community Summary, which directs you to an electronic form.  Here you will select the preferred instructional option for your child(ren). The link will be active as of Monday, July 27th.  Please make this selection no later than Wednesday, August 5th.

The Y.A.L.E. Reopening and Return Plan requires approval from the Camden County Executive Superintendent’s Office.  We felt it would be helpful to all Y.A.L.E. families to know the options as of this writing.  Moreover, by making your selection as requested, you will help us to best meet the needs of our students, both in-person and remotely, when school begins in September.

We understand that this coming school year will look vastly different from years past, and appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this process.  Through continued efforts, and by working together, we are confident that students, families and our staff and faculty will feel both physically and emotionally safe in the months ahead.

Respectfully,

The Y.A.L.E. Administrative Team
